Where to Stay Near Guruvayur Temple

ഗുരുവായൂർ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിനടുത്ത് താമസം

Guruvayur's temple day starts in the dark, so where you sleep matters more here than at most temples. This guide compares your realistic options — the Devaswom's own guest houses, hotels near the East Nada, and hotels farther out — and gives you the checks to make before you book.

The short version
  • Check the official option first. The Guruvayur Devaswom runs guest houses — Sreevalsam, Panchajanyam and Kausthubham. Rooms are limited and booking rules change, so start at the official site, guruvayurdevaswom.in.
  • "Near the temple" varies a lot. Independent listings put Lilac Hotel Guruvayur about 0.7 km from the temple, roughly an 8-minute walk. Some hotels are closer and others are farther.
  • The first darshan is around 3 AM. Ask any hotel about 24-hour reception, early check-in and transport at that hour.
  • Guruvayur station is a small terminus. Only a few long-distance trains run all the way; from most places you change at Thrissur.

Distances and facilities on this page come from the Devaswom's published information and public hotel listings. We have not inspected the properties, and we show no prices because they change. Please confirm details with the hotel or the Devaswom before you book.

Why it matters

Why your choice of stay matters here

എവിടെ താമസിക്കണം?

Guruvayur is a temple town built around the Sri Krishna temple, and the day follows the temple's schedule. The first darshan, Nirmalyam, is around 3 AM, and the last pujas run into the evening. If you want to join the early darshan, a short walk in the dark or a dependable early shuttle is the difference between a calm morning and a stressful one.

For the full darshan timings, dress code and rituals, see our Guruvayur Temple guide. This page is only about where to stay and how to get there.

Devaswom guest houses

ദേവസ്വം അതിഥി മന്ദിരങ്ങൾ

The Guruvayur Devaswom, which manages the temple, runs its own guest houses and rest houses near the temple. The ones most often named are Sreevalsam (with an annex), Panchajanyam and Kausthubham. Several sources describe them as being close to the temple's east gopuram.

Booking arrangements have changed over the years. The Devaswom's official website has an Accommodation section, but some third-party sites say certain guest houses are booked through the Devaswom office instead. Check the official site, or ask at the Devaswom office, for the current method and rooms. Room types and rates also change, so we do not quote them.

Use only the official portal. Look-alike "Devaswom booking" sites and agents who promise guaranteed rooms or darshan slots are a known problem at busy pilgrim towns. Book through guruvayurdevaswom.in or directly with the Devaswom.
Private hotels

Two hotels pilgrims use

ഹോട്ടലുകൾ

These are two commonly used options. We have not stayed in either; the notes below come from public listings, so please confirm details when you book. There are many other hotels in Guruvayur, so compare before you decide.

Lilac Hotel Guruvayur

East Nada area · ലൈലാക് ഹോട്ടൽ
Distance to temple
Independent listings give about 0.7 km, roughly an 8–10 minute walk, and about 10 minutes' walk to Mammiyur Mahadeva Temple. Hotel marketing may quote a shorter figure, so ask for the walking distance to the East Nada gate.
Railway station
Listings suggest about an 18-minute walk, so most guests take a short auto ride.
Reported facilities
An on-site restaurant (Kesar), free covered parking and wheelchairs on site, according to listings. Ask about the menu, check-in times and 24-hour reception.
Best for
Pilgrims who want a walkable stay with hotel comforts.

Some hotels advertise "darshan assistance". Ask exactly what that includes, because darshan queues and slots are set by the Devaswom, not by the hotel.

Gokulam Park Guruvayur

Chavakkad side · ഗോകുലം പാർക്ക്
Distance to temple
Outside the temple's immediate area. The hotel's listing cites roughly 2 km, so confirm the exact distance and the route.
Temple access
The hotel advertises a free 24-hour shuttle to a sister property near the temple. Confirm the shuttle's timings, especially for a pre-dawn darshan, and whether it runs on festival days.
Best for
Families and groups who want more space and parking, and ceremony stays, and who are comfortable using a shuttle or car for darshan.

Not strictly, but the temple's first darshan, Nirmalyam, is around 3 AM. A hotel within walking distance, or one with a reliable early shuttle and a 24-hour front desk, makes those early mornings much easier. If you stay farther away, ask the hotel how it arranges transport at that hour.
